Adam Kramer, DO
Dr. Adam Kramer is a Board-Certified General Surgeon who graduated from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then went on to complete his General Surgery residency at Ohio University in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. After residency in 2000, Dr. Kramer moved to Kansas City and joined Advanced Surgical Associates.
Dr. Kramer is a Kansas City University Preceptor for medical students and a General Surgery Residency Training Physician. He is the Chairman of the Breast Center at St. Mary’s Medical Center and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He serves as a proctor for Da Vinci Robotic Assisted Surgery. Dr. Kramer is also certified in Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine.
In his spare time, Dr. Kramer enjoys boating, fishing and spending time with outdoors with his family at their small cabin and property nearby.
Charles Harper, DO, FACS
Dr. Harper is a local graduate of general surgery residency at Kansas City University – St. Mary’s Medical Center. He received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Nevada, Reno. He attended medical school at Touro University in the San Fransisco Bay area. After earning his doctorate in osteopathy, Dr. Harper completed a year-long internship at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, California. His general surgery residency was completed locally at the Kansas City University – St. Mary’s Medical Center program.
Dr. Harper, his wife, and 3 children live in Lee’s Summit. Dr. Harper enjoys serving at his church by leading a small group and playing in the band. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking with his wife, and discovering new restaurants across the metro.


Adam Swiger, DO, FACS
Introducing Adam J. Swiger, DO, he is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the esteemed Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by a rigorous residency in general surgery at Western Reserve Health Education/Northeast Ohio Medical University. Dr. Swiger further honed his expertise through an intensive fellowship in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City.
A dedicated member of the medical community, Dr. Swiger holds memberships with prestigious organizations including the American College of Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. Committed to delivering unparalleled care, he approaches each patient with compassion and a meticulous attention to detail, striving to enhance patient safety, optimize quality of life, and mitigate the inherent risks of complex procedures.
Dr. Swiger’s professional interests lie in the realm of minimally invasive surgical techniques, and he possesses specialized training in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery utilizing the da Vinci Robot. His clinical focus encompasses a broad spectrum of conditions, including anti-reflux surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction, hernia repairs, and diseases affecting the colon, small intestine, and stomach.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Swiger enjoys cherished moments with his family and friends, indulging in activities such as golfing and playing the guitar. His commitment to both his profession and personal pursuits reflects a well-rounded individual dedicated to excellence in all facets of life.

With over 25 years of experience in business management within the medical field, Brenda Wright has a deep passion for helping physicians grow their practices while fostering a strong team atmosphere. Her leadership and dedication ensure that both providers and patients receive the highest level of care and support.
Brenda finds great fulfillment in creating a positive patient experience and takes pride in the teams she has developed throughout her career. Her extensive background in medical management has given her a unique ability to truly understand the inner workings of a practice, allowing her to enhance efficiency and patient satisfaction.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Brenda is dedicated to mission work in her local community and outreach efforts. Faith plays a significant role in her life, and she is actively involved in her church. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and her beloved dogs—Mia, a Great Dane, and Charlie, a Havanese. She also loves camping, hiking, traveling, and working out, always embracing new adventures and an active lifestyle.

Hi, I’m Amanda, an experienced Administrative Assistant and Account Manager with 25 years in the medical field. I started as a receptionist, and my passion for numbers led me to specialize in medical billing, earning my Medical Administrative Assistant certification through Apollo College with an externship in dermatology.
I’ve worked in specialties like dermatology and plastic surgery, gaining expertise in patient care and administrative management. I’m dedicated to ensuring smooth processes for both colleagues and patients, with a focus on “doing it right the first time.” One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping people understand their medical bills and navigate insurance complexities.
Outside of work, I love giving back to my community. My daughter and I volunteer monthly with Harvesters Distribution through our church and support holiday projects with Heart-N-Hand Ministries. At home, I enjoy time with my growing family and am excited about the adoption process for my step-grandchildren.

With over 25 years of experience in healthcare, Jennifer VanWinkle combines her extensive clinical knowledge with a passion for patient care, fulfilling a lifelong dream to work in medicine. She has expertise in phlebotomy, assisting with minor surgical procedures, and a strong understanding of clinical and administrative procedures, including accounts receivable. Jennifer is also a certified Biomedical Investigator, further enhancing her qualifications and commitment to delivering exceptional care.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jennifer finds fulfillment in spending quality time with her family. She is a proud mother of two sons: one pursuing his Master’s degree and a Senate internship in Washington, D.C., and another completing high school milestones. These enriching life experiences shape the empathy and compassion she brings to her role.

Martha P. Torres, a Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) and Phlebotomy Technician (PBT), brings over 25 years of expertise to Advanced Surgical Associates. With a career dedicated to patient care and clinical excellence, Martha has developed a comprehensive skill set that enhances the quality of care she provides.
She began her training at El Paso Community College, earning certifications as a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy Technician. She also became a certified Computerized Information Specialist through International Business College, gaining expertise in medical records management and modern healthcare technology.
Martha’s career is defined by her technical expertise and her commitment to compassionate, ethical care. Guided by the principle, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” she strives to improve patient outcomes while fostering meaningful connections.

Michelle
Michelle Lalla Keck brings over 36 years of experience to her role as an Administrative Assistant. Originally from Independence, MO, Michelle graduated from Truman High School in 1988 and has dedicated her career to supporting patients and professionals with care, efficiency, and compassion.
Throughout her career, Michelle has worn many hats, including administrative assistant, dental assistant, and billing and collections specialist, showcasing her versatility and commitment to excellence in every role. Her philosophy, “Treat others the way you would like to be treated,” drives her approach to work and life, ensuring a patient-centered, empathetic perspective.
Now based in Greenwood, MO, Michelle cherishes time with her family, including her four beautiful granddaughters, one grandson, and a love for baking, cooking, and traveling. She’s passionate about supporting causes like Wounded Warriors and breast cancer awareness and believes in living a healthy, purposeful life.

Dr. Matt Hentges
Dr. Matt Hentges brings a unique perspective to medicine, combining the discipline of a former collegiate football player with a deep dedication to patient care. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas before pursuing his medical degree at Kansas City University.
When he’s not in the hospital, Dr. Hentges enjoys spending his off-time camping, traveling, playing hockey, and creating memorable moments with friends and family. His well-rounded experiences and commitment to excellence make him a trusted and approachable physician.
Dr. Ben Murrell
Dr. Ben Murrell earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Kansas State University. During his medical school studies at Kansas City University, he pursued additional coursework at Rockhurst University, graduating with both a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Leadership. He is currently on track to complete his residency in 2026, after which he plans to specialize in general surgery.
What Dr. Murrell enjoys most about general surgery is the variety it offers, providing exposure to a broad spectrum of medical conditions and procedures. Outside of his professional commitments, he loves spending time with his wife, Jessa, and their daughter, Gracelyn. He also enjoys tackling DIY projects at home, golfing, and cheering on the Chiefs, Royals, and Kansas State Wildcats.


Dr. Augustine Nguyen
Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Dr. Augustine Nguyen is passionate about advancing the field of surgery both locally and globally. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and earned his medical degree from the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine in Las Cruces, NM.
Dedicated to a future in general and global surgery, Dr. Nguyen brings both technical skill and compassion to every patient encounter. Beyond the hospital, he’s a devoted plant dad to an orchid named Lucy, enjoys long walks in the park, and is a committed Ravens and Orioles fan.
He carries with him the words of Paul Kalanithi:

Dr. Jesse Rincon
Dr. Jesse Rincon is a general surgery resident with a strong academic background and a focus on advancing surgical care. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Graceland University and earned both a Master of Biomedical Sciences and a medical degree from Kansas City University. Jesse brings a thoughtful, patient-centered approach to his clinical work, grounded in a deep interest in surgical innovation and evidence-based medicine.
He is particularly interested in minimally invasive techniques and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve the surgical experience of patients. Jesse is also interested in research initiatives aimed at refining surgical protocols and outcomes.
Outside the hospital, Jesse finds balance through skateboarding, snowboarding, and travel—lifelong interests that keep him grounded and creative beyond the clinical setting. Most days away from work are spent with his wife, Madeline, their two children, Rory and Rome, and their dog, Scout.


Dr. Karson Schroeder
Inspired by early experiences during mission trips to Guatemala, Dr. Schroeder has a strong interest in participating in medical mission trips in the future, aiming to make a positive impact beyond his local community.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Schroeder enjoys spending quality time with his family, exploring new restaurants, cooking, playing soccer, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Dr. Jacob Wiepen
Dr. Jacob Wiepen, originally from Omaha, Nebraska, is a proud graduate of Rockhurst University and KCU. With a passion for staying active and exploring the outdoors, Jacob spends his free time running, golfing, and discovering new patios with his dogs by his side. Whether on the course, the trails, or relaxing at a pet-friendly café, Jacob enjoys experiencing all that life has to offer while staying connected to his community.
